Could someone give me advice on my diet and weight loss progress?
I am a 26 y/o w/m at 6’3″. My weight was up to 305 lbs back in 2007. I have had a moderate weight problem my entire life. I started the Atkins diet in July 2007 and lost about 80 lbs. As soon as I stopped dieting, I fell right back into my old habits and got back up to 266 lbs. I started a low calorie diet in April 2008 and I am down to 199 lbs today.
My job entails walking laps around a 200,000 Sq Ft supercenter for several hours at a time (Usually between 5 and 10). I use a low estimate for my speed (3.0 MPH). My primary function is to catch shoplifters, so I have frequent adrenaline rushes, and I am forced to move and stretch my body into several unique positions throughout the day. I feel like I am getting a sufficient amount of exercise at work. I would estimate that I walk about 5 miles on a slow day at work. I do light calisthenics about 3 times per week, normally just crunches and stretching.
My diet has been pretty strict. I am using the site fitday dot com to track what I eat and make sure that my daily calorie balance is as precise as possible. My average daily consumption since mid May has been about 1400. I feel healthy, satisfied, and I eat when I am hungry. I have found several ways to slash calories from my diet. For example, I have found 71 cal wheat tortillas (taco size) that are great for wraps. I use very low cal and low fat lunch meats and fat free cheese for sandwiches and wraps. I eat a lot of fruit. The 100 calorie snack packs have been great for snacking. Ground beef has been virtually eliminated and replaced with lean ground turkey. My wife has really jumped on board with the healthy eating because my daughter is about to start eating table food. We have been using a lot of Lean Cuisine meals for quick lunches and breakfasts. In the event that we do get to cook a meal, we purchased a portion scale that has made it possible to be very accurate with serving sizes. I ALWAYS make sure to eat breakfast. I occasionally have to skip lunch, but I make a valiant effort not to.
From the results I have achieved, I am confident that I am not making too many mistakes. I change things up quite often to keep my metabolism on it’s toes. The only obvious mistake I see is not changing my exercise routine up. That is because I moderately injured my ankle back in May in a fight with a shoplifter. That has eliminated most strenuous physical activity. We don’t have the money for a gym membership, and I do not have access to any weight training equipment. So, there is my background.
Now for the question. Over the last couple weeks, my weight loss has hit a pretty big plateau. I have only lost about 6 lbs in the last two weeks. I am currently experimenting with eating a couple hundred more calories a day. Is it normal for the progress to slow so dramatically? Is there anything that I can do to improve my results? My goal weight is 180 lbs. That is about mid range BMI for a healthy weight. The NHI says my ideal weight is about 175 lbs. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how I can integrate some type of weight training into my routine in an inexpensive way. I am very concerned that I am losing more muscle mass than I am comfortable with. I still have very noticeable love handles. What can I do about that? How does body fat redistribute throughout ones body during periods of weight loss? I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read all of this and respond lol.
I started the low cal diet in April 2009, not 2008….Sorry about that.

Ever notice the worse people give the most advice?
My husband’s sister and her husband are broke. She does not have a job did not qualify for unemployment She has not had one in 2 years. I told her to temp until she found something she said if she temp she will not be able to go on interviews. I got her an interview cleaning office buildings 2nd shift 4 days a week so she can interview , she said that she would not be able to meet her husband for dinner. She does not like to clean people are dirty, I stopped.
So now she wants to give financial advice. I take the subway to work to save money and miles on my car she is telling me to lease a new car . For what my car is paid off? She makes fun of me for clipping coupons. She is always at Kohl’s shopping. She is always asking to “borrow” money. Last night her jobless broke self sat me down and gave me a lecture about finances. Telling me clipping coupons saves about $25 is it worth the time. FYI-I clip coupons at my part-time job when it is dead.
Why do fat people have weight loss tips?
Why do single people know the most about marriage?
Why do people without children know the most about raising children
Why do broke people know the most about being rich?
i do not mean all fat people and all broke people ect..
If she was broke but working on getting her situtaion better and telling me her mistakes that is different. SHe is telling me to lease a car because she does not like mine *shrug*. She tells me to not clip coupons because the peron behind me in line gets mad *shrug*. She tells me not to wear purple becuase that was fall ’09 color and it does not look good if i am wearing it now. Her friends told her i was wearing last year color now.
Weight loss help, could someone give me some advice?
Heres the deal… I’m not actually overweight, my bmi is somewhere around 18-19 and I’m in fairly good shape. The problem is, i’m 14. Im quite large (6’1 205 pounds large frame) and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to lose leg fat which makes up about 60% of my total excess fat. (genetics, dad had it uncle had it) it just is difficult to burn off. Any tips
Can someone give me several tips about jogging and diet for several kilos loss?
Hello! I’m 19 years old, guy, 1.93m tall(6.33ft) and I’m skinny when I wake up and fat when I go to sleep at night. That means I have 64 kg(140 pounds) when I wake up and 73kg(160 pounds) when I go to sleep. So I wanna get rid of the annoying belly.
So is it ok if I run 4 km(2.48 miles) every night? I don’t have any health problems so please don’t avoid telling me if it’s too less. What shouldn’t I eat and what should I eat more? I must say, I NEVER eat anything after 6 PM.
@Tracy I eat about 3 slices of brown bread on every meal. I do have a pedometer. Got it today. Excellent gadget.
Thanks for the tips. I hope I’ll lose the belly by doing this.

Can anyone give me some good tips to overcome weight loss obstacles while in college?
I’m 5’3″ and currently 136 pounds, measurements roughly 35-28-38. I’m certainly not obese but I know from the past that I feel amazing in the 120′s weight range, and I’m definitely not happy with the way I feel and look right now. I’m a weight watchers devotee and have the computerized food log and fitness log (tracks measurements/weight/bmi/fat%) all ready to go, but I need some tips concerning some serious obstacles which have had me yo-yoing in weight since September.
*two free dining halls only source of food–the other, healthier places on campus offer pricey meals on a limited secondary budget of $200 per semester-dining halls generally offer pizza, burgers, eggs, bacon, and an “international” station which serves unfortunately delicious meals of 500-700 calories!
*there is a deli station, but i became quickly bored with their very bland sandwiches and my two former favorites, tuna sandwich and roast beef sandwich
*i’ve tried a couple times, but i’ve never been able to enjoy eating salads-there is a salad station, but it’s not self serve, and i have no idea what tastes good together with what dressing, etc
*the cold weather and the sloppy slushy outdoors makes me generally reconsider bundling up and walking to the campus gym as much as i know i need it
My best friend on campus (and actually kinda my only close friend, I’ve always been held back by my insecurities which I hope will be helped by losing weight) will be my roomie next semester, and she’s been a serious unconscious saboteur of my weight loss….she loves getting desserts after both lunch AND dinner, and always asks me to go with her to check out the dessert tables, if I don’t, she gets disappointed or makes fun of me…I’ve basically joined her in that bad habit where I found myself eating one or two chocolate cupcakes a day! I know she knows I’m always about to be in a diet, in a diet, or falling off a diet, but if I mention that a meal looks good but has too many calories, she’ll usually say “Oh, go on, just get it, who cares?” and when I do fall off the wagon she makes fun of me saying, “Just yesterday you said you couldn’t get dessert with me, and today you’re going back for your second serving of fries!” Right when we first met I told her I was trying to lose weight, and she said jokingly, “i’m your worst enemy then!” because she loves so much to eat.
I know that now she’s my roomie i’ll be eating even more meals with her and I need some tactics beforehand to deal with my cravings and not fall in because it’s easier to conform. She has gained weight in college too, 11 pounds in fact, but being 5’7″ and originally 108 pounds, becoming 119 pounds really has just given her very skinny frame some nice curves and bigger boobs, while my weight gain has me on the fast train towards becoming the michelin man.
I don’t blame my roomie for my weight, it’s certainly the choices I make that shape my size, but I would love some tactics for facing the obstacle of eating with her and the other obstacles I mentioned as well.
Hoping to get some weight loss tips plus give out my own tips?
Ok I do two things lately that are a big help.
When I do cardio, instead of killing myself for 10-20 minutes, I do 45 minutes or longer of either walking, ski machine or cycling. I end up burning more calories and I can go a long time because im in the gym watching tv or whatnot.
The other thing I do is fill a large cup with ice and pour skim milk over it (90 calories, zero fat calories, 9 grams of protein). I keep drinking that a few times during the day. This gives me a lot of protein which I need for lifting and makes me feel full.
Just wanted to see what other people are doing and share
