Weight loss…teen?

Ok. Well I am 16 and overweight. I have almost no self confidence. My mom is always telling me how I need to loose weight. But then she went and sold our indoor bike and treadmill. I really want this years prom to be special, and I want to look good. I have tried diets, and havent been able to keep one. I have tried working out, but then she got rid of the stuff claiming I didn’t use it. I am involved in alot of after school stuff, and need quick yet effective workouts. I really want to drop 15-20 lbs before prom, which is in May. Please, suggestions as to how to achevie it? I don’t eat junk food that often.
Also, could you suggest some flatering cloths? Most of my weight is in my stomach, so I tend to hide behind my sweater. But I really want a date for prom, so I know I need to kind of put myself out there and work with what I have. No negitvies please, if you don’t have any good advice, don’t waist my time or yours.
Thanks.

Eat LESS and excersize. You could go to a local gym and ask for good excersizes for your body-type. If you’re really serious about loosing weight, go to a dietision and ask for advice. Good luck!

Running seems to be the best advice for your situation. Not sure how the sidewalks are in your neighbourhood, but running can be done anywhere and provides you with fresh air. Music definitely helps.

Small things throughout the day can help as well. Do 2-3 minute exercises whenever you have time, it’s been proven to equate to the full workout session. Good luck.

I felt the same way as you did when my girlfriend tries to tease me for being so bulky. Here’s a secret that I can share, try to make your self busy or do an activity that might require you to skip food. As for me, I made my self focused at work and here I am, confident and feeling so good for loosing about 20 pounds in just a month. No need to some exercise that requires a lot of sacrifice.

I’ve suffered from the same thing too when I was 10-24/25.

When I went to college I realized that I wanted to actually do something with my life and become a real estate agent in Orange County, California. So many beautiful people – I wasn’t distinguished enough. 150 pounds later….

Now at 22 I weigh 210 pounds and am getting no where in my business.
At 23: 180. I dieted and exercised, and it really helped!
At 24: 150. I dieted and exercised, and it really helped!
At 27: 105 pounds. I went to the doctor, and she stated that I was underweight! At first I was overjoyed, but then I realized what was going on:
WAIT! I told myself that day…. “Could I have an eating disorder?”
Sure enough, I found help and I was anorexic! I was eating too little – so watch out for your weight!

Now I am 30 and weight 120 pounds : the perfect thing for my height and age, and I am so confident in what I do.

Eat 5 small meals a day as opposed to the regular 3. Make sure the meals are low fat/low calorie. Replace white bread with whole wheat. Drink lots of water or no calorie beverages. Take a multivitmain. When you eat, be sure and eat food from all the food groups. Walk at a quick pace for at least 30 minutes a day. If you have stairs in your house thats even better. Walk up and down the stairs for 30 minutes. Thats a dynamite cardio workout. Sure it looks funny but it burns calories and firms up your legs and butt. You dont need fancy workout equipment to exercise. You just need to do an activity that makes your heart pump. If you stick with this plan you should easily lose that weight by Prom. Oh….and stay away from junk food period.

Well about losing weight I tottally know what you mean! I was there once. It can be really hard somtimes. But heres my advice. Instead of going on a diet try just cutting back on what and how much you eat. like when you want a snack pick somthing healthy like fruit or vegetables. And about what kind of cloths are flatering?? Well I know If I what to impress someone Id wear a black jumper or skirt with a colored shirt or you could try clothing that isnt baggy but not tight either, and try to avoid stuff with gathers in it. I hope this helped!!

Don’t worry about it, millions of teens are in your situation. Run around the block foraround 10 minutes each day and then do around 30 sit ups. You may not loose a tonne of weight, but you will look great come May.

  17. Crazy Sparkler** says:

First of all, you don’t have to lose weight to get a date for prom. If you want to lose weight, it should be to please yourself and make yourself happy, not anyone else. Now about loosing the weight…

Size your portions down a bit. I’m not saying barely eat anything, but when you go to a restaurant, and they give you those huge portions, try to split it with someone. Also when you are full, you are full, don’t eat anymore, no matter how good the food is. Make sure you drink lots of water too.

Workout while watching t.v. You don’t have to have a rigorous workout, just try seeing how many pushups you can do while the comercial is on. Try to beat your number every time. While the actual show is on, you can just smiply lift some 2 pound weights. When you go somewhere, try to park far away from the store, so you have to walk far to get there.

Now, about clothes, there isn’t one particular style that is good for bigger girls. It just depends on your body, and where the weight is. There are stores now that do have really cute clothes that come in larger sizes, like Old Navy. Don’t torture yourself by going into stores like Hollister either. I know some extremely skinny people that can barely fit into a medium, it’s ridiculous. The sizes at those stores are just not made to fit normal people.

Good luck, and remember, do this for YOURSELF, not anybody else =]

i have soooo been there. I was a little over weight, at least in comparison to everyone around me. I didnt enjoy exercise or dieting, and every time I tried to lose weight, I would become overwelmed and end up back at my old habits. I have lost 15 lbs. I know this is probably not the most appealing answer, but you just need to diet and exercise. Since I didn’t like exercise, I found something that I could at least tolerate. I suggest buying “The Biggest Loser 2 Workout Video”. It is fun and you can actually see your progress quickly. Try alternating aerobic exercise with lifting weights. Building muscle will help you burn fat SOOO much fast. You will feel stronger and better about yourself.

This is going to seem a little strange to say; but eat more meals in a given day. Research has shown that maintaining a consistent blood sugar helps your body to work better. Now how this equates to you is very simple. doing so; you won’t overeat. Overall; those meals will total smaller portions. Eat to the point where you don’t feel hungry anymore. Don’t go past that point. If you don’t feel hungry anymore; that’s where you stop eating. Second: if your weight is mainly in your stomach; a treadmill or bike isn’t going to help anyways. you can run all you want; and nothing’s going to happen to your midsection unless you’re running 20 miles a day at 8 miles an hour. (that’s really hard to do.) Instead; working out your waistline will benefit you more. Doing crunches and then using weights are extremely beneficial. Over exercising is a BAD! thing. so make sure you start off slow and slowly work your way up. When it comes to your mom; if all she has are complaint’s ask her if she has a solution instead. People love to complain about things; but they’re also the ones who don’t have solutions to problems. So tell her to buzz of if she doesn’t have anything helpful in her repertoire of words. Self confidence starts with you. People aren’t going to give it to you, it’s something you give yourself. You have to make loosing weight about you and not about other people. Make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. Which the only right reason to do anything is for yourself. You have to learn to accept and acknowledge what you don’t like about yourself and then decide if it’s something you want to fix or not. If you don’t want to fix it; than you accept it. If you want to fix it; than the only thing that gets in your way is yourself. Don’t let you get in the way of what you want for yourself. :)

Make sure you eat a good size breakfast.
    Smaller lunch.
    Don’t eat a heavy dinner.
    And Don’t eat past 7pm.
If you have stairs in your house, go up and down them a few times.
Put on music you can dance to and dance in your room.
As far as clothes, just go shopping and try on all kinds of clothes. Don’t get comfort clothes, get clothes that you feel good in. If you are insecure you won’t buy anything tight and revealing so don’t worry about getting the wrong thing.
As far as a prom dress I would get something like this:

it looks elegant and crinkles at the waste so you don’t feel self-conscious.

How much would you like to drop? Since you have about five months, I think you could drop about 15 pounds if you follow the following steps:

    1. Weight yourself every morning, before you eat.
    2. Write down everything what you eat each day.
    3. Don’t drink soda, including diet soda.
    4. Drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water every single day.
    5. Never skip a meal but always skip the dessert.
    6. Eat 4 to 5 small meals, instead of three meals.
(Limit your food calories to 2000 a day so each
meal should be around 400 to 500 calories.) Most
importantly, your meal should be nutritious and well
    balanced.
    7. Don’t eat anything after 7 p.m. (water is OK). If you’re
really hungry, then eat an apple.
    8. Sleep at least 7 hours a day.
    9. 30 to 60 minutes of fast walk, at least 5 times a week.
    10. If there is a sidewalk available and if your neighbor is
in the safe area, then walk to your friends’ house,
    school, library, and etc.
    11. Once a week, treat yourself with a dessert – again, in
    a small serving only.

My recommendation is for the people who truly don’t like to exercise or don’t have resources to go to a gym. If possible, I would recommend that you might want to sign up one of those sports activities at your school.

For targeting abdomen, get a hula hoop. It sounds a bit silly but whenever you’re watching a TV, don’t just sit around – use the hula hoop. Next thing you know, you’re hula hoping for an hour. It really works.

For a camouflage – stand straight up and hold your tummy whenever you’re walking or standing up. It forces your abdomen muscles to work and you’ll look as if you have a flat tummy.

A final note – don’t worry about your weight. More you worry about it, more stress you’ll get. More stressful you’re, most likely you’ll eat more. AND DO NOT SKIP A MEAL.
